Claire’s family keeps a variety of sheep, including Hebridean, Icelandic, and Blackface. We joined them on a lovely, sunny day, and met some of the ewes with their lambs – the Icelandic sheep are really very good tempered and relaxed.
We moved on to check on the expectant ewes, finding a pair of recently born lambs. We helped (a little) to get them all into the holding pen, carrying the lambs in front of the ewe so she’d be more inclined to follow. The lambs get iodine applied to the end of the umbilical cord, and the whole family gets a number sprayed on, before being let out into the section for ewes with lambs.
